Democratic Senators Seek DOJ Probe Into Trump-Linked WLFI Token’s Alleged Ties to Sanctioned Entities
Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jack Reed have called for a Justice Department investigation into World Liberty Financial (WLFI) after a watchdog report flagged transactions linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group, a Russian ruble token, and an Iranian exchange. The referral cites wallet-level data showing 62 buyers with prior Tornado Cash exposure.
WLFI’s tokenomics disclose that Trump-affiliated DT Marks DeFi LLC and family members hold 22.5 billion tokens, receiving 75% of net proceeds. This concentration of assets—potentially intersecting with sanctioned entities—has drawn scrutiny over sanctions compliance risks.
The senators’ MOVE follows September findings by Accountable US, which mapped transactional ties to high-risk jurisdictions. The report highlights vulnerabilities in DeFi controls as regulators intensify focus on illicit finance pathways.
